Explore the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood and the Coast!
Our first destination of the day is Crown Point Vista House - listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This iconic overlook is perched 733 feet above the Columbia River, built atop remnants of a lava flow that occurred 14 to 17 million years ago! Next, we'll drive into the Columbia River National Scenic Area to our first waterfall: the impressive Latourell Falls, which cascades 249 feet over a dramatic wall of columnar basalt. Depending on the season, we'll take a short 1/4-mile paved trail hike for a closer look at the falls.
Our next stop will be the magnificent Multnomah Falls, which plunges 620 feet in two distinct tiers, making it the highest waterfall in Oregon and the second highest continuously flowing waterfall in the U.S.! The easily accessible viewing platform offers breathtaking views of the Benson Bridge and the cascading falls. We’ll then continue on to Hood River, renowned as the Windsurfing Capital of the World. We’ll take an hour to explore the town and enjoy lunch. Afterward, we'll head south through the picturesque Fruit Loop, lined with orchards and lavender farms. If time allows, we might even stop briefly at one of the local farm stands!
